Autobiography of an ex-army officer who went to Hawaii to make his fortune in sugar. While some of the book discusses the sugar industry, mostly it is the author's discourse on life and society in Hawaii in the 1870s. The photographs show members of the Royal family, and some local pictures of less exalted native personalities.
