A partir de la consideración de un alegórico árbol como objeto de estudio, donde su tronco correspondería al movimiento antifranquista Estampa Popular, la presente exposición y catálogo tiene como objetivo indagar en sus orígenes, más allá de la Guerra civil española, para demostrar que el problema de España viene de lejos y aún perdura en la actualidad. Hoy en día esta situación se comprueba al observar cómo pueden existir ciertas ramificaciones de la creación artística contemporánea que siguen manteniendo el carácter de denuncia social o se acercan el espíritu crítico de aquel. Para establecer este amplio arco cronológico donde cada artista contemplado en la muestra es testigo de su tiempo, y las injusticias o desigualdades que este trae consigo, se parte de Goya y la España negra de Solana y Regoyos para, seguidamente, introducir a algunos de los propios miembros de citado movimiento y desembocar en las creaciones de integrantes (alumnado y profesorado) de la Escuela de Arte de Cantabria (ESAC).

Based on the consideration of an allegorical tree as an object of study, where its trunk would correspond to the Estampa Popular anti-Franco movement, the present exhibition and catalog aims to investigate its origins, beyond the Spanish Civil War, to demonstrate that the problem from Spain comes from afar and still lasts today. Today this situation is verified by observing how there may be certain ramifications of contemporary artistic creation that continue to maintain the character of social denunciation or approach its critical spirit. In order to establish this wide chronological arc where each artist contemplated in the sample is a witness to their time, and the injustices or inequalities that it brings with it, we start from Goya and the black Spain of Solana and Regoyos to, then, introduce some of the own members of said movement and lead to the creations of members (students and teachers) of the School of Art of Cantabria (ESAC).
