Conciones ex historicis excerptae

Conciones ex historicis excerptae

by Juan Carlos Iglesias-Zoido

by Carlos Alberto Dos Santos Dutra

Nomos, Kosmos & Dike in Plutarch

Nomos, Kosmos & Dike in Plutarch

by José Ribeiro Ferreira, Delfim F. Leão, Carlos A. Martins de Jesus

2014 · Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra / Coimbra University Press

In September 2002, the University of Coimbra hosted, for the first time, a conference of the Réseau Thématique Plutarque, a research network created by several European universities in order to promote regular annual meetings of junior and senior scholars who share a common interest in Plutarch's work. The Coimbra meeting of 2002 was devoted to the fragments of Plutarch, and the results of that event were published one year later, in a volume edited by José Ribeiro Ferreira and Delfim Leão, under the title Os fragmentos de Plutarco e a recepção da sua obra (Coimbra, 2003). During the following years, many other universities organized conferences of the Réseau on a rotating basis, until the event came back to Coimbra, where the Portuguese section of the International Plutarch Society (SoPlutarco) hosted, from 16 to 18 June 2011, the twelfth meeting of the network, devoted this time to the subject "Nomos, kosmos and dike in Plutarch". The present volume comprises most of the contributions presented during the Coimbra meeting, after having been submitted to a process of revision, which involved the direct collaboration of the several regional sections of the Réseau. Although the volume kept the multilingual diversity of the participants in the conference, its structuring elements were composed in English, in order to reinforce the coherence of the book and to enlarge the number of potential readers.

Year Zero Christmas One

Year Zero Christmas One

by Decio Martins de Medeiros, Carlos Fernando Carvalho de Castro

2024 · Decio Martins de Medeiros

The book satisfies some curiosities about our calendar and some events that marked the beginning of year counting. Does our calendar, known as the Gregorian calendar, have a year zero? In December of year zero, how old was Christ? And had Herod already died before year zero, as some historians claim? How can we prove that our calendar is correct? The book confirms the validity of the current calendar based on an unprecedented chronological research conducted in 2016 when it was possible to demonstrate synchronicity with 6 other events, including 1 annual, 2 specific, and 3 millennial ones: astronomical in March, historical in 70 AD, biblical in 2 BC, Christian holidays in June and December, and the Jewish circumcision ceremony! The narrative is fictional, but the chronological research is real. The narrative tells, in a light and enjoyable manner, the adventure of Aline, Enrico, and Júlia, high school students, who, with the help of their mentor Gaspen, successfully complete their mission to present the results of their research at the end of the school year. Their research proves that, at the end of year zero of the current calendar, Christ was one year old. They had crucial support from researcher João Carlos, who paved the way.
