Knud Helgeson Kvilekva was born in 1843 in Voss, Norway. His mother was Ingebjørg Haldorsdatter Kvilekval. They emigrated in 1849 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. His mother married Nels Nelson in La Grange, Wisconsin. He became governor of the state of Minnesota and a United States Senator.
