Making Meaning

Making Meaning

by Richard L. Hayes

2020 · Bloomsbury Publishing USA

This integrative book brings forty years of research and scholarship in counseling, psychology, and education together in a singular analysis. In Making Meaning, Hayes illustrates how the construction of meaning can have a profound effect on how we come to know ourselves and others. Hayes depicts meaning-making as an ongoing, dialectical, and recursive process of change and reinvention. This process plays a central role in individual development and loss and helps promote multiculturalism, collaboration, and group and team development. This book is recommended for mental health professionals and educators looking to promote democratic learning communities.

Nutritional Approaches To Aging Research

Nutritional Approaches To Aging Research

by Gairdner B. Moment, Richard C. Adleman, George S. Roth

2018 · CRC Press

The general plan of this volume, Nutritional Approaches to Aging Research is for each chapter to present first a reasonably succinct state-of-the-art appraisal of present knowledge in the particular field or problem covered. This will vary considerable depending on the subject matter. Following this, each chapter will focus on the problems and pitfalls, both conceptual and technological, of work in the particular field and, no less important, present some of the opportunities and implications of work in that particular area.

Combinatorial Games

by Richard K. Guy

2000 · American Mathematical Soc.

Based on lectures presented at the AMS Short Course on Combinatorial Games, held at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Columbus in August 1990, the ten papers in this volume will provide readers with insight into this exciting field. Because the book requires very little background, it will likely find a wide audience that includes the amateur interested in playing games, the undergraduate looking for a new area of study, instructors seeking a refreshing area in which to give new courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and graduate students looking for a variety of research topics.

Focus on Medical Genetics and Down's Syndrome Research

Focus on Medical Genetics and Down's Syndrome Research

by Richard A. Firthel

2007 · Nova Publishers

Medical Genetics is the application of genetics to medicine. Medical genetics is broad and varied and encompasses many different individual fields, including clinical genetics, biochemical genetics, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, the genetics of common diseases (such as neural tube defects), and genetic counselling. Each of the individual fields within medical genetics is a hybrid. Clinical genetics is a hybrid of clinical medicine with genetics. Biochemical genetics is a hybrid of biochemistry, mainly the biochemistry of amino acids and proteins, with genetics. Molecular genetics is a hybrid of the biochemistry of DNA and RNA with genetics. Cytogenetics is a hybrid of cytology and genetics; it involves the study of chromosomes under the microscope. And genetic counselling is a hybrid of genetics with non-directional counselling. This book presents leading-edge research on medical genetics as well as on Down's syndrome.
